About Maidenhead Grid Squares: The Maidenhead locator system divides the Earth into grid squares used by amateur radio operators for location reference, especially in VHF/UHF contests and satellite work. A 4-character locator (like EM85) covers roughly 1Β° latitude by 2Β° longitude. A 6-character locator (like EM85ou) narrows it to about 2.5' by 5'. Activity data combines APRS station positions and Reverse Beacon Network spots.
